FFM 2025 15: Under a Rock

Challenge: Pick a prompt from the Prompt Bank 2025 and have a palindromic wordcount. Optionally, include a generator of any kind.

My prompt is You pick up a stone, and what’s beneath confuses you by ev13il, my wordcount is 131 and, naturally, I included a generator.

“Windy, where are day 13 and 14 stories?” you ask? They’re on the backburner; I didn’t have the energy to do day 13 after I was done with day 12 (AKA collab challenge) and yesterday (14) I had to give myself a day off from FFM because I was running errands on at most 4 hours of sleep during a heatwave and adding coming up with, writing and editing a flashfic was just too much. I’ll (hopefully) be able to catch up by the weekend but until then, I’m prioritizing challenges over proper catching up.

In the meantime, enjoy this snippet of Beyari and QWERTY’s hunting career.

“‘Turn over every stone,’ they said. ‘You’ll find the ancient generator for sure,’ they said. What a load of-” QWERTY paused to identify the object underneath the stone ae had just picked up. “Oh.”
Beyari put her hands on her hips when she saw it. “Well I’ll be damned. It really was hiding under a rock.”
QWERTY shook aers head. “And because it’s small enough to hide under something this small, it’s either incredibly powerful or incredibly useless.”
“Or incredibly good as decoration.”
QWERTY turned aers head to look at Beyari slowly.
Beyari shrugged. “It’s a tiny weird thing. It’d be a good conversation starter. Especially since the story of how we got it will be even weirder.”
QWERTY looked to the sky and contemplated the reason for aers continuing existence.
