Challenge: Comment with “challenge me” and challenge other people by replying to their comment with a misconception, either fictional or real-life, they must feature in their story.
My misconception of choice is from bunnythewriter: Fictional: Ingesting magical items dulls their power/effects.
We interrupt the string of Whoops stories for a completely unrelated fantasy story (that may or may not end up in a suitable World Collection after FFM). Viva!
“Well, since it’s a cursed gem, we can dull the curse for the duration of the transit if either of us swallows it. It’s small enough that at least I can get it down my throat.”
“…Dude. First of all, that’s not how curses work. Second of all, even if it did, wouldn’t that just concentrate the curse on whoever takes it through their digestive system alone, regardless of whether or not this sharp-edged gem slices them up from the inside along the way? Do you want to get a personalized plague inside you or, worse yet, maybe start radiating the curse once it’s fully infected you and become an extension of the artifact?”
“…On a second thought, why don’t we backtrack to get one of those curse-seal scrolls from the shrine? We can expense that.”
“Damn right we can expense that. In fact, I already did. Here.”
“Oh. Nice.”
“Uh-huh. Nice.“
This was such a fun challenge! Glad that at least one of the characters thought this through.
