Challenge: Write a 369′-‘er (3 interconnected 69-word stories). It must include the following words: spectacular, inventive, chartreuse, candle, deep, forbidden, decayed, painted, pages, forgotten, time, end.
The pages smell of forgotten chartreuse. Were you to indulge in decadence, you could probably taste it if you ate the book. Nutrition, however, is not why you have opened this tome.
Time is what you are lacking. Your candle flickers, warning you that you have to go soon. The darkness is nigh and the beings that haunt the vault are getting closer.
Soon, you will have to escape.
The wraiths haunt the halls as you sneak about. The vault was easy to get into, but getting out will prove to be a problem. The once painted stairs are now decayed yet you cannot afford to make a sound. If a noise gets deep enough into the halls, the wraiths will meet you where you stumble and be the end of your story.
Now, you must take caution.
It’s spectacular, how inventive one must get when exploring a site of dark magic gone wrong at night. How a single mistake will have you join the beings of forbidden magic that you are working so hard to avoid.
The outside world always greets you with relief and a kind of safety few will ever know of when you reach the exit.
