Hi everyone!
The first quarter of the year has come to its end, so it’s time for a new Currently on my art post. There isn’t all too much to be said now either.
First, not an April Fool’s joke: after almost an entire year, I have finally finished data gathering for my master’s thesis! I’ve got a month and a half to do the analysis and finish writing my thesis if I want to get my degree finished within the ongoing academic year. While I am aiming to get my thesis ready by mid-May – which is sure to keep me busy – it won’t be a disaster if I need more time. It’s a relief to be done with the roughest part of the job; 300 hours of gameplay and an uncounted number of hours of transcribing later I’m glad to be able to move on and take a break from gaming with a fine-tooth comb. I’m definitely in need of a break from playing Persona 5 Royal, haha!
In any case, when the next post rolls around, I’ll have even more news about my master’s thesis. Not sure what news it’ll be, but I’m glad I’ll finally get to tell my supervisors something new for the first time in almost a year in the next meeting.
In other news, I came across some news on DeviantArt’s side: a new layout for the groups being mandatorily rolled out for all groups, even the inactive ones. After getting hold of FFM’s hydra to alert them about the upcoming change, I wound up going on an extensive spree with the hydra’s Head of Tech to make sure the entire Flash Fiction Month group is backed up on the Wayback Machine. It was a lot of work but we managed to pull it off. At the time of writing, the group appears to be on the old layout still, so no idea what’ll happen once the new layout comes to the FFM group. We’ll see, I guess, and the hydra is keeping an eye on the situation, so hopefully everything goes fine.
As for my creative projects, I’ll Draw The Stars is going fine, although it has been suffering from a majority of my energy going to my thesis. Honestly, a big part of the wordcount probably comes from bringing more of the conversation data from my thesis over to the draft, both from the conversations themselves and the text that’s needed to bridge them into the rest of the narration. I wish I could say similarly about The Fate’s Way‘s progress; it’s suffering from a severe writer’s block. I know where I am and where I want to go, but so far bridging those two points has been like pulling teeth. I think I’m getting there, but as the statistics will show, it’s an incredibly slow process. We’ll see where things go from here over the spring and the upcoming summer.
Anyway, enough about that. Let’s check out the Q1 2024 statistics, shall we?
And those were the stats. Not much to say about them at this point. Let’s see how things are going with my projects, as per my project widget:
- The Fate’s Way: Chapter 84 is in writing. I still need to redraw the regular Alyssa and also Alyssa’s friends and family and the other important people, like Matti, someday. I need to revise chapters, still haven’t gotten around to doing that at all.
- Off-DA projects: My master’s thesis is progressing well; I finally finished the data gathering at the end of the quarter and can now begin analyzing the data!
- Lyokostar: The second part of story 7 is still waiting for alphareading, but that’s a thing for once its indefinite hiatus ends. This story is in need of massive reworking, so it’s going to take a long time to finish when I do find the time and energy to resume it. References need to be done.
- A Wandering Aura: On indefinite hiatus.
- I’ll Draw The Stars: I’m reworking to add a considerably big plot bunny into the fic and lots of smaller plot bunnies in the form of the background characters I’ve been researching for my master’s thesis. I’m currently working on chapter 11 out of 80. I wrote 50036 words in Q1 and Q2 has started off with 198 words written.
- Gaming: Habitica and Pokémon Masters EX keep on going. I’ve also finished the remaster of Persona 5 Royal for my master’s thesis as well as completed Trine 4.
- Other stuff: I haven’t had the time to work on the FFM 2023 collection since the last update. I hope I’ll get it out before July though. I have been reading fanfics mostly.
- Personal life: Just master’s thesis stuff, that’s all.
