FFM 2023 25: No More

No prompts used.

David Bowie Day challenge: Select one of the doors in the challenge description. Put the selected door’s playlist on shuffle and pick a lyric from the first song that comes in the story (or alternatively use the title or feature an instrument used in the song in case of instrumental pieces). You must write the story in stream of consciousness.

The song I got is from the 2016 playlist, The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! by Sufjan Stevens. The lyric I picked is We were in love.

“We were in love,” you said to me, the end of it so obvious to you that you could not see how you broke my heart, your own vision so clear in the face of the smog over mine, a beautiful thing I had always admired, a beautiful thing I was now about to lose. “This is a goodbye.”

“I’ll miss you,” I said to you, the end of it suddenly so obvious to me that I could see your relief at being allowed to move on, the smog around me clearing up for a tiny moment before the clarity is gone again and I will see you no more.

You turn away and you walk away and I will see you no more, no more.
