It was dark when Bereth awoke.

When Bereth regained consciousness again, he was on his side. His limbs were in a mixture of numbness and a kind of pain that burned with crackling lightning. There was something on his back but he could not tell whether it was his blood or some kind of goo.

Zogeri hissed at the bird that settled on her head. The damn thing was completely unfazed by the fact that a Hydra head was infuriated with it. "Stupid jackdaw."

Cold. That was all that Bereth felt when he came to. He could somewhat feel his own presence but none of his limbs. His body altogether felt as good as nonexistent.

"And that's why we should do this my way." A feeling of deja vu made its home in my gut. "Why does it feel like we've done this before?"

Scarlet knew that she was unwanted before she understood anything else about the world around her, even the cruel words that were used of her.
