Tribble Month 2023 6: Email or Letter?

The day’s prompt: Email or Letter?

It has been quite a long time since you last heard of your cousin. Since he lacks social media presence, you send him an email. It bounces back. “This address does not exist.” Huh.

You are not deterred. You send a letter to the address you know he lives in. The letter gets sent back with a note that says “this guy doesn’t live here”.

That’s strange. You send a message to your aunt. She says that she does not have a son — or a child at all.

Confused, you ask your father. He is just as confused as you are — although for the opposite reason; he has never heard of the cousin you are asking after.

Now concerned because either there is a conspiracy going on or something is wrong with you, you look up more. As far as official documents say, your cousin does not exist.

You check old photos, find one with you and your cousin in it and ask your father. He does not know who the boy next to you is.

No one recognizes the boy when you ask around or remembers him at all.

You are left to wonder what on earth is going on… until the police show up to your door and take you away on the basis of your email message to your (nonexistent?) cousin.
