As an Information Technology student, I do software both for my courses and as a hobby. The projects on this page are available on GitHub: https://github.com/WindySilver

Story Statistics

Story Statistics (Finnish: Tarinatilasto) is a practical work I did with my boyfriend on our Programming 2 course using Java and JavaFX during the spring semester of 2019. Like the rest of the practical works for the same course, it is modeled after the example, a club register.

HTML widgets

In 2019, I got into making statistics out of how my art, especially writing projects, progresses and make infographs about them with HTML and CSS.

HTML widgets

In 2019, I got into making statistics out of how my art, especially writing projects, progresses and make infographs about them with HTML and CSS. I eventually ended up making statistics about my Flash Fiction Month and Prose-ject 2019 participations as well. In addition to these, I made a widget for showing the status of each of my ongoing project, which I have since then added on this website.

The HTML files can be found on GitHub: https://github.com/WindySilver/HTMLWidgets

Poetry

My best poems.

Rakkauden kuoro/The Choir of Love

Rakkauden kuoro is a Finnish poem I wrote in autumn 2017 into a poetry contest for teenagers with the theme “love is blue-and-white”. While it did not win, it was chosen for the poetry collection 100 runoa tunteella ja rakkaudella. The Choir of Love is the literal translation, which I made so that non-Finnish speakers could understand the poem as well.

Life = Beauty

A small poem written in December 2018 for a later cancelled Triskele publication with the theme Life. Life = Beauty is about the equivalence of beauty and life.

Who is there to see the beauty?

A small poem written in December 2018 for a later cancelled Triskele Poetry publication with the theme Life. It is about seeing the beauty in life.

A Star’s Death

A small poem written in December 2018 for a later cancelled Triskele Poetry publication with the theme Death. While the star in question may or may not have been a stellar object, the poem includes a supernova nevertheless.

Wait Till Spring

A small poem written in December 2018 for a later cancelled Triskele Poetry publication with the theme Rebirth. Wait Still Spring is about plants coming back to life after the winter.

Wait Till Spring

A small poem written in December 2018 for a later cancelled Triskele publication with the theme Rebirth.

Like plants of yesteryear,
Killed by winter’s cold touch,
We shall rise from the deaths again,
When the spring returns.

A Star’s Death

A small poem written in December 2018 for a later cancelled Triskele publication with the theme Death.

They said I was a star,
And right they were.
When my time came,
My death wrought a supernova.

Who is there to see the beauty?

A small poem written in December 2018 for a later cancelled Triskele publication with the theme Life.

Whispers of eternal sleep may sound beautiful,
But listen to them not.
For if you close your eyes forever,
Who is there to see the beauty in life around you?

Life = Beauty

A small poem written in December 2018 for a later cancelled Triskele publication with the theme Life.

Life is beauty,
Beauty is life.
But when beauty gets twisted,
So gets life.

Rakkauden kuoro/The Choir of Love

Written in autumn 2017 for a Finnish poetry competition for young people aged between 13 and 18 and who live in Finland and later published in the poetry collection 100 runoa tunteella ja rakkaudella. The literal English translation is below the original poem.

Rakkauden kuoro

Rakkaus, kuin tuuli, joka tulee ja menee,
Joskus vire, joskus puuska, joka nostaa veet.
Se matkaa ympäri maailman,
Kulkien sydämestä toiseen läpi maan ja ilman.

Hoi, nyt liityn lintujen laulukuorohon!
Sydämeni raikaa, herää elohon!
Kuule raikuva laulumme!
Tunne rakkautemme!

Maailma elossa on!
Liity siis jo kuorohon!
Sininen ja valkoinen,
Luontomme niin monimuotoinen!

Haista tuoksut tuomen ja vanamon,
Tunne jalkojesi alla pehmeys ruohon ja lämpö auringon!
Kuule suhina puiden,
Tanssi kanssamme valossa kuun ja tähtien!

Rakkaus, tuo voima valtaisa,
Oli paikka kaupunki kiireinen tai metsä rauhaisa,
Se siellä kanssamme on!
Laita sinäkin se jo jakohon!

Olkoon hanki valkoinen,
Tai kesäpäivä helteinen,
Rakkaus maailmamme täyttää,
Turha vihaa on pitkittää!

Miksi sitä vihaa riittää,
Kun maailma on niin täynnä hyvää?
Pois viha ja kipu heitä,
Ja rakkaudella maailma peitä!

Liity joukkoomme rakkauden kuorohon,
Herää kanssamme elohon!
Maailma meidän kaikkien on,
Ja rakkaus peloton!

The Choir of Love

Love, like a wind that comes and goes,
Sometimes a breeze, sometimes a gust that raises waters.
It travels round the Earth,
Going from one heart to another through soil and air.

Hey, now I join the choir of birds!
My heart resounds, comes to life!
Hear our blaring singing!
Feel our love!

The world is alive!
Therefore, join the choir already!
Blue and white,
Our nature so diverse!

Smell the scents of bird cherry and twinflower,
Under your feet, feel the softness of the grass and the warmth of the sun!
Hear the rustle of the trees,
Dance with us in the light of the moon and the stars!
Love, that tremendous power,
Whether the place is a busy city or a calm forest,
It is with us there!
Share it already, too!

Let the snow be white,
Or the summer day hot,
Love fills our world,
There’s no point in prolonging hate!

Why is there so much hate,
When the world is full of good?
Throw away hate and pain,
And cover the world in love!

Join us in the choir of love,
Come to life with us!
The world is for us all,
And the love unafraid!

Short stories

My best short stories between 1000 and 10000 words.

The Ultimate Prank

A continuation to a flash fiction written during Flash Fiction Month 2019, The Ultimate Prank is the story that earned me my first Daily Deviation feature on DeviantArt. It’s a story about a necromancer learning and documenting her necklace’s powers and her granddaughter learning what she had from her notes to fulfil her final wish after inheriting the said necklace. Wordcount: 2327.

To Trust In The Force

While To Trust In The Force is a piece of fanfiction set in the universe of my Star Wars: Exceptional Jedi series, it is a standalone piece I crafted with lots of care and multiple editing rounds. When the two protagonists clash in a way they have never before, they have to figure out how to go from there – and if they even can continue as a team anymore. Wordcount: 9352.

A sample of Greenfield book 1, chapter 10

In August 2019, I took part in a writing challenge that made me progress my novel project with 15000 words. To show for what I had done, I chose a sample from chapter 10, featuring the narrator Iris Unforgiving and her fellow protégé Thomas Wayfarer. The wordcount is 499, but since it is a sample of a longer chapter, I decided it was best put here.

The Lost Bridge Over The Abyss

A contest entry that required us to feature one of the paintings of the user organizing the contest, FaerieWarrior. My choice of painting was Bridge to the Abyss. The Lost Bridge Over The Abyss is an epistolary fantasy-sci-fi story about a journalist duo’s investigation over a bridge project that keeps failing, told mostly through audio logs posted on social media. Wordcount: 1496.
